In the workshop "The Role of Digital Technologies in Sustainable Business - with a Pinch of Salt", students will learn how digitalization can affect sustainability in companies and supply chains. Through the analysis of concrete real life cases and experiences from past and current projects in companies, they will be able to see the real effects that sustainability initiatives have on changing the culture and way of doing business, and explain the role of digital technologies in these processes.
The program includes high student engagement through (1) a game of searching for sustainability problems and solutions in and around the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb, (2) full-day teamwork on a research project in companies and institutions that apply digital technologies to improve sustainability, and (3) practical work on developing an idea for applying for your own project as part of the EU Youth Initiative.
Through the mentioned activities, students will improve (a) the ability to critically think about the potentials of applying digital technologies to improve sustainability and (b) acquiring the competences to work in international teams on the development of their own projects in this field.
In the title of the program salt is emphasized for two reasons. The first reason is the fact that students will be presented with sustainable experiences of business from the salt industry, which will increase their knowledge of a specific industry relevant to national economy in Central European and Eastern European environment.
Another reason is that critical thinking with in English language is denoted by the idiom "with a pinch of salt". So, salt in the title emphasizes the main purpose of the program - to promote and improve critical thinking students about digitization and its impact on sustainability.
